Trips

How trips work

The STL offers door‑to‑door paratransit service, between accessible pickup location and an accessible destination.

All trips are by reservation only.

Types of trips

Instructions and crequirements vary depending on the type of trip.

Regular trips

Book by phone or online

A regular trip is a recurring trip taken to and from the same locations at the same times (e.g., travelling to work and returning home).

Trips within Laval or Montréal

  • Book up to 7 days in advance and no later than 7 p.m. the day before the trip.

Trips to Longueuil and the North and South Shores

  • Book up to 7 days in advance and no later than noon the day before the trip.

To provide the best possible service to all customers, we may adjust the confirmed pickup windows for regular trips several times throughout the year. As a result, your pickup window may vary from one trip to the next.

Public holidays

On public holidays, all regular trips are automatically cancelled, except for dialysis trips. If you wish to keep your trip, please call the Reservation Centre.

Occasional trips

Book by phone or online

An occasional trip is a one‑time trip scheduled on a specific date (e.g., going to a shopping centre and returning home).

Trips to Longueuil and the North and South Shores

  • Book up to 7 days in advance, and no later than noon the day before the trip.

Trips can be booked up to 7 days in advance and until 7 p.m. the day before the trip.

Metropolitan trips

A metropolitan trip is a regular or occasional trip taken outside the cities of Laval or Montréal, but within the area served by the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM).

To take a metropolitan trip, you must have a metropolitan customer record.

Contact Customer Service if you plan to take such a trip.

Trips not eligible for paratransit

Paratransit service is reserved for individuals travelling on an individual basis.

Paratransit service cannot be used for:

  • Travel to and from elementary or secondary schools, whether public or private.
  • Travel between healthcare facilities for the purpose of receiving medical care.

Location accessibility

Pickup and drop‑off locations must be accessible by means of a safe access ramp.

If an access ramp is deemed unsafe, your trip may be cancelled. If necessary, we may ask you to have the ramp modified so that it meets safety requirements.

In winter, please ensure that pickup and drop‑off areas are cleared of snow and ice before the driver arrives. Otherwise, your trip may be cancelled unless you are able to reach the vehicle on your own.

Travelling with an attendant

You may travel with an attendant if you have received authorization from the STL eligibility committee. Your attendants must be listed in your customer file.

Conditions for companions:

  • Only one attendant may travel with you. Exceptions may apply for customers aged 14 or under. For more information, contact our Customer Service.
  • Your attendant must board and exit the vehicle with you and, unless an exception applies, must pay the applicable fare.
  • When booking your trip, you must indicate that you will be travelling with an attendant. If you do not, the driver will not be able to allow your attendant to board.
  • We encourage your attendant to provide the driver with any information that may help improve your comfort and safety during the trip.

Arrival and driver assistance

The driver will assist you with boarding and exiting the vehicle.

The driver cannot go upstairs and must keep the vehicle in sight at all times. The driver is also not authorized to wait for you or make changes to your reservation. If you need to change your reservation, please call the Reservation Centre at 450‑973‑3111.

You must be able to transfer to the vehicle seat on your own or with minimal assistance, unless you are a permanent wheelchair user.

The driver cannot assist you up or down more than one step if you are using a wheelchair and there is no access ramp. You must be able to negotiate the steps on your own or with assistance from someone other than the driver.

Driver assistance

What drivers cannot do

  • Use stairs or an elevator to reach or accompany you
  • Wait for you if you are late
  • Change your reservation
  • Transfer you from your wheelchair to a seat when your trip is provided by taxi
  • Transfer you from your wheelchair to a seat when your trip is provided by taxi

You must be able to transfer from your wheelchair to the vehicle seat on your own (or with minimal assistance). If you cannot, please call us at 450-688-6520 to let us know so we can add this restriction to your file.

On-time service and delays

Regardless of the type of trip you have booked, we will always confirm your pickup time within a 30‑minute pickup window, for both outbound and return trips.

You must be ready to board the vehicle at the beginning of your pickup window. For example, if your confirmed pickup window is between 10:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., you must be ready and waiting by 10:00 a.m.

By being ready on time, you help prevent delays and inconvenience for yourself and for other customers.

Unless an event beyond our control occurs (such as an unexpected detour or a snowstorm), we are committed to arriving within your confirmed pickup window.

If your paratransit vehicle has not arrived by the end of the 30‑minute pickup window confirmed at the time of booking:

Call the Reservation Centre to let us know that the vehicle is late. We will investigate and provide an update as quickly as possible.

Return promptly to your agreed pickup location. The driver will be instructed to wait for you if they arrive while you are away.
