OPUS card
The OPUS card is a plastic smart card that lets you load up to four different types of transit passes. It is the only way to purchase a monthly pass.
There are two types of OPUS cards: the regular OPUS card (without photo) and the photo OPUS card. To benefit from reduced fares (for children, students and seniors), you must have a photo OPUS card.
You may also need a second OPUS card if you travel in zones AB, ABC or ABCD.
Regular OPUS Card (without photo)
The OPUS card without photo can be purchased for $6 at a metropolitan ticket office, sales outlet, or ticket vending machine. It is valid for 4 years.
Once your card has expired, you will no longer be able to use it or load passes or single fares onto it. You will need to purchase a new card.

IMPORTANT : If you travel outside Laval, you may need a second OPUS card to load the required passes. This is the OPUS card dedicated to All Modes AB, ABC and ABCD fare products. Scroll down to learn more.
Student Photo OPUS Card
Students aged 12 to 17 enrolled full‑time in a secondary school, and students aged 18 or older enrolled full‑time in a recognized educational institution, are eligible for reduced fares.
Student photo OPUS cards generally expire on October 31 (date shown on the back of the card). After this date, an expired card can no longer be used to purchase or use reduced‑fare passes until it is renewed.
It is recommended not to wait until the end of October to avoid high demand. Any remaining valid passes will be transferred to your new card.

OPUS Card for All Modes AB, ABC and ABCD passes
Due to certain technological limitations, it is not possible to load single fares and monthly Bus passes, as well as All Modes AB, ABC and ABCD passes, onto the same OPUS card.
A second OPUS card, dedicated to All Modes AB, ABC and ABCD passes, can be issued free of charge if you already have a valid OPUS card (regular or photo).
Do I need a second OPUS card?
A dedicated OPUS card is useful for customers who use the STL bus network for their regular travel and occasionally travel outside Laval by metro, train or REM.
About the dedicated OPUS card
Use case
Use case
You use Bus passes and mainly travel by bus in Laval, but occasionally take the metro to Montréal.
Single fares (1, 2 or 10 trips) and short-term passes (unlimited passes) for zone AB are not compatible with the OPUS card you use for bus travel in Laval.
You can either get a dedicated OPUS card or purchase your fares on an occasional card (paper smart card).
Specificities for reduced fares users
Specificities for reduced fares users
You must get a dedicated photo OPUS card to benefit from reduced fares on All Modes AB passes (1, 2 or 10 trips).
To obtain one, go to a metropolitan ticket office.
IMPORTANT The cardholder must be present at the ticket office for the photo, as the system does not allow reuse of the photo from your existing photo OPUS card.
Travel in zones ABC and ABCD
Travel in zones ABC and ABCD
If you occasionally travel on Montréal’s North Shore (zones C or D), a dedicated OPUS card may be useful.
All Modes ABC and ABCD passes allow travel across both the North Shore and South Shore of the Greater Montréal area.
As with AB passes, a second OPUS card may be required to prevent the wrong pass from being charged during your trip.
Please note that a monthly All Modes ABC or ABCD pass can be loaded onto a regular OPUS card or a photo OPUS card.
