This new much anticipated fast lane will be linking eastern Laval, from Saint-Martin Blvd., to Montréal, at Pie-IX metro station (green line) at the corner of Pierre-de-Coubertin Blvd., passing through the St-Michel–Montréal-Nord station (exo5 commuter train line — Mascouche).
What’s an RBS?
A Rapid Bus Service uses reserved lanes in the centre of the road that cars cannot use. Such a configuration allows buses to beat traffic by avoiding vehicles turning right, and vehicles entering or exiting the reserved lanes, among other interferences. For even greater efficiency, the Pie-IX RBS is also equipped with a bus priority system at traffic lights and its stops are farther apart than curbside stops.
The Pie-IX RBS is an 11-km corridor shared by all Greater Montréal public transit agencies (exo will start using it in 2023). As of November 7, 15 of the 17 stops will be in operation, including two in Laval.
This is a joint project with the ARTM, the City of Montréal, the Ministère des Transports, the STM and their partners, the City of Laval, the STL, exo, the Société québecoise des infrastructures as well as the various boroughs served.
