GETTING OR RENEWING YOUR OPUS CARD

The steps to get or renew an OPUS card are the same.

The steps to get or renew an OPUS card are the same. Every year, you have from August 1 to October 31 to get or renew your photo ID OPUS card. If you miss the deadline, you will not be eligible for the reduced student fare. Check the expiry date on the back of your card. Most photo ID OPUS cards expire on October 31 every year.

IMPORTANT: To avoid the long lineups, be sure to renew your OPUS card before the end of October. If valid fares are still charged on your card, for example a monthly fare, they will be transferred to your new OPUS card at the time of renewal and you will be able to use them as before.

You have two options.

I’m a part-time student. Can I get a student OPUS card with photo ID?

Only full-time students are eligible for the student rate.

However, you can get the student OPUS card with photo ID and the student discount if you are enrolled as a part-time student at two different schools and the number of course hours or credits you are taking makes up a full-time course load.

I’ve ordered my OPUS card online. How long will it take to receive it?

When you order online via a participating school, your card should arrive within 7 to 10 days. If you haven’t received your card after 7 business days, call our Customer Contact Centre at 450 688-6520.

I’ve lost or damaged my photo ID OPUS card. How do I get a new one?

Simply go to a metropolitan ticket office, ask for a new card, and pay the $15 fee. Your tickets and passes will be transferred to the new card and your old card will be deactivated, making it unusable.

I got my new photo ID OPUS card. How can I transfer the tickets and passes I had on my old card?

When your new card is produced, do not charge any new fares on your old card. This could complicate fare transfers.

You must go to a ticket office to have your tickets and passes transferred. Stop loading new fares to your old card once your new card has been issued as that could complicate the transfer process.

You can get your card as early as December 20 prior to the beginning of your term.

I’d like to let someone else use my photo ID OPUS card. Am I allowed to do that?

No. The photo ID OPUS card can be used only by the person it was issued to. Anyone using a card with someone else’s name on it is guilty of an offence liable to a fine.

My photo ID OPUS card has expired. What should I do?

You can no longer use your OPUS card to pay your fare once it has expired, even if valid fares are still charged on it. To be eligible for the discounted fare again, you must get a new card.
