To qualify for a student OPUS card with photo ID, you must be a high school student or full-time student. You need this card in order to access reduced or student fares, whichever apply to you. The process for obtaining or renewing student OPUS cards with photo ID varies depending on your age and your student status.
It can be loaded with Bus fares, monthly All Modes AB, ABC and ABCD passes as well as some special fares, such as the XTRA or school-related fares.
All Modes AB, ABC and ABCD 1-, 2- and 10-trip fares cannot be loaded on an OPUS card with photo ID. However, by presenting your OPUS card with photo ID, you can purchase them at the reduced fare loaded onto a second OPUS card used only for such fares. To qualify for a student OPUS card with photo ID and reduced fares for youth ages 12 to 17, you must be less than 18 years old on October 31 of the current school year. All students ages 16 and over must provide proof of full-time study.

Cards are available starting August 1 before the school year begins.
When should I renew my card?
Students ages 12 to 14: Cards must be renewed every two years, before the expiry date indicated on the back of the card. Your card won’t work after it expires.
Students ages 15 to 17: No later than October 31 of each year, as indicated on the back of the card. (Your card won’t work after it expires on October 31.)

How to schedule an appointment to obtain or renew my card at Metropolitain ticket office?
Until further notice, OPUS cards with photo ID will be issued and renewed by appointment only to foster social distancing at ticket offices. Make sure you’ve completed all of the required documents and to have them on you when leaving for your appointment.

How long will it take to receive my OPUS card?
At a metropolitan ticket office or during the school tour, your OPUS card with photo is given to you instantly.
For online orders, expect a delivery time of 7 to 10 days. If you have not received your card after 7 working days, contact our Customer Contact Center.
Can I renew my card online if I am enrolled in part-time study?
You must be a full-time student in order to be eligible for student fares. If you study part-time in two different institutions, but your total course load or credits is equivalent to full-time study, then you are eligible for a student OPUS card with photo ID and student fares. However, you won’t be able to place online orders. Instead, please go to a Metropolitan ticket office and make sure you bring all required documents with you.
I lost a card that was still valid. Can I order a new card online?
Yes. We will contact you to confirm your order and then we’ll send you a new student OPUS card with photo ID. Please contact our Customer Service Centre if you require assistance.
What happens if I order a card online even though I already have a valid card for this year?
Simply mention the error when we contact you to confirm your order and we’ll cancel it. No new card will be sent out. To request a refund of the $15 new card fee, please contact our Customer Service Centre.
