New simplified
and flexible transit fares

The Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM) unveiled transit fare changes that will go into effect as of July 1, 2022. It’s Phase 2 of the great fare reform that started last year.

What’s new for regular public transit on July 1, 2022?

  • Introduction of Bus fares in a 1, 2 or 10-trip format or as a monthly pass. The Bus fare will replace the familiar STL fare and gives riders access to all bus trips in the greater metropolitan area. You can ride on almost all regular transit buses!
  • Introduction of All Modes AB fares in a 1, 2 or 10-trip format or as a monthly pass. The All Modes AB fare will replace the TRAM 3 fare and gives riders access to all modes of public transit (bus, metro, train) in Laval, Montréal and the agglomeration of Longueuil. Commute however you like with a single transit fare!
  • New monthly passes on sale as of June 20, 2022 and per-trip fares on sale as of July 1, 2022 at metropolitan ticket offices, fare vending machines, and at our points of sale.
  • The new Bus fares and All Modes AB fares will have a 120-minute transfer time.
  • Magnetic transfer cards issued to riders who pay $3.50 on board by cash or credit card will be valid for 120 minutes (previously 90 minutes), but only applicable for trips within the STL network.
  • Depending on what fare you need to purchase, you may request a second OPUS card at no charge. Some conditions apply. Learn more from the metropolitan ticket offices or by calling our Customer Contact Centre at 450-688-6520.
  • L’Occasionnelle smart cards will now be available at all our points of sale.
  • Customers may continue to use the tickets they already own until they run out.

Take note! The Horizon 65+ fare is still valid and Laval residents age 65 and over who have an OPUS card with photo ID can ride for free. Also, the XTRA STL fare will be offered again in July and August to Laval residents age 12 to 17 who have an OPUS card with photo ID.

What’s new for paratransit on July 1, 2022?

  • Introduction of Bus fares in a 1-trip (paper ticket) and 1-trip (cash payment on board) format or as a monthly pass for minibus or taxi trips in Laval and to the northern suburb. The monthly Bus pass will be replacing the familiar monthly STL pass.
  • Introduction of All Modes AB fares in a 1-trip (paper ticket) and 1-trip (cash payment on board) format or as a monthly pass for minibus and taxi trips to Montréal and the agglomeration of Longueuil.
  • Ticket books will be replaced with a single (1) paper ticket. Paper tickets will be sold per unit at metropolitan ticket offices and at our points of sale as of July 1.
  • If you still have ticket books, you can keep using them after July 1, 2022. These tickets remain valid until they run out.
  • A discount will be applied for a trip paid in cash on board. The regular fare will thus be $3.25.

Take note! The Horizon 65+ fare is still valid and Laval residents age 65 and over who have an OPUS card with photo ID can ride for free. Also, the XTRA STL fare will be offered again in July and August to Laval residents age 12 to 17 who have an OPUS card with photo ID.

Change to metro rides from Montréal to Laval

To take the metro in Laval, you need an All Modes AB fare as it replaces the TRAM 3 fare. Also, for metro rides from Montréal to Laval, you will now need an All Modes AB fare, which is the same fare for both outbound and inbound trips.

Which transit fare to choose?

To help you find the transit fare you need, the ARTM has a Fare Selector you can use. Simply enter some information about your trip and there it is!

Reminder about zones

Since July 1, 2021, Laval has been designated Zone B (previously Zone 3).

The STL will support you and continue to keep you informed of any developments. Our Tickets and Fares section will be updated shortly. Remember: Key new features will be rolled out in Laval in July 2022.

Some good value fares were introduced in 2020 and are still valid: Unlimited Evening and Unlimited Weekend passes

Did you know that public transit agencies, such as the STL, the STM, exo and the RTL, don’t get to decide on the fares for riding the bus, train or metro in any of the greater metropolitan area sectors?

All public transit fare decisions in the Greater Montréal Area are under the purview of the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM). For a few years now, the ARTM has been preparing to implement a staggered fare reform over four years to simplify regular public transit and paratransit fares.

Phase 1 of this fare reform was rolled out on July 1, 2021.
